Staff Accountant

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare month-end journal entries and related balance sheet reconciliations

* Assist in month-end close process and financial reporting

* Prepare daily cash entries

* Draft accounting policies

* Research current GAAP pronouncements and draft technical memoranda as needed

* Assist Financial Reporting Manager in researching new accounting pronouncements

* Draft internal controls narratives and processes

* Backup finance operations as needed to process monthly and quarterly invoices and wire/check approvals

* Work closely with Accounting Managers and others to understand the impact of day-to-day processing

* Interface with external audit

• Interface with division personnel including the financial planning and analysis (FP&A) team, legal, marketing, operations, and relationship management

* Complete special projects for manager and other financial functions within the department as required

• Responsible for protecting and securing all client data held by Ascensus to ensure against unauthorized access to and/or improper transmission of information that could result in harm to a client.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration with an Accounting concentration

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or pursuing CPA preferred

• 2-4 years Accounting experience

• Public accounting experience a plus

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Independent and possesses excellent organizational skills

• Self-starter and self-motivated

• Analytical and detail oriented

• Aptitude for problem solving

• Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word. 

• Prior Financial Services / Retirement industry experience a plus

• Lawson general ledger and/or IBM Cognos TM1 experience a plus
