Investment Analyst

Description

The Investment Analyst (IA) directly engages clients, external investment partners and teammates on a daily basis.   This highly collaborative and highly visible investment role provides support to the Relationship Management team, Business Development efforts and other priorities.  Preparing, delivering and interpreting investment data and resolving investment related issues will be the main responsibility of this role.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for all concerns within the investment management process and will partner closely with the Ascensus Investment Advisors team, reporting directly to the SVP of Investment Management and Advisor Strategy.  Overall goal is to deliver impeccable service, while managing competing deadlines and varying business expectations while bringing fresh perspectives, ideas and creative solutions. 

Section 2: Job Functions, Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research and critique underlying investments of 529 plans and Single State Retirement Plans
  • Evaluate allocation mix, examine portfolio efficiency, and defend proposed solutions
  • Remodel and implement departmental policies and procedures
  • Attend, deliver, and convey investment opinions at select 529 Board meetings
  • Collaborate in the design of new 529 glide paths and stand-alone portfolios
  • Communicate effectively to ensure insightful and intelligent decision making
  • Anticipate issues and connect with our strategic investment partners to resolve them
  • Create, maintain, and enhance client data delivery procedures
  • Review and approve complicated trades for completeness and integrity
  • Craft client presentations, RFPs, fee analyses, and compliance reports
  • Participate in and prepare reports for Ascensus’ Investment Committee Meetings

  • Section 3:  Experience, Skills, Knowledge Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of solid investment management experience in a client facing role in a retail or institutional investment management setting
  • Bachelor’s degree required; attainment of or progress toward a professional designation (CFA/CIMA/CFP) preferred; advanced degrees including MSF or MBA a plus
  • Must be able to work independently, multitask, meet deadlines, and thrive with minimal supervision
  • Must be an expert at managing data using Excel and Morningstar Direct as well as highly skilled with PowerPoint and Word
  • Solid understanding of portfolio performance calculations and ability to translate information into an understandable conversation
  • Experience presenting investment related issues in group meetings
  • Strong work ethic within a flexible working environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Overnight travel as necessary; up to 10%
