Form 5500 Specialist

  • Form 5500 Specialist exercises discretion and independent judgment over the tasks, duties and job responsibilities outlined below.
  • The position has significant importance due to the critical nature of the employee benefit administration function performed by Wrangle for its clients.   The position requires a professional relationship and professional communication with plan sponsors, brokers and Wrangle staff.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibility is to review the prepared 5500 and SAR, and post those to the plan sponsor and/or broker.  The key tasks and duties are listed below, but are not limited to the following:

  • Take the next Ready to Review 5500 and perform a comprehensive review. Once the review has been completed and any needed updates made, post the 5500 and SAR out per the broker and/or plan sponsor instructions.
  • The 5500 Specialist must understand the broker, the plan sponsor, the plans and the benefit/insurance data, and work collaboratively with the consultant and data collections contacts as necessary to address any questions or open items.
  • Make necessary updates on a daily basis on files that are sent back for updates/corrections. 
  • Check with the Consultant as needed to ensure only updates that would be in accordance with the Form 5500 Instructions are made.
  • Assist with peer 5500 reviews as needed to assist the flow of prepared 5500s.
  • Have primary responsibility for preparing, reviewing and posting amended 5500s as well as Ticking and one-year DFVCs.
  • Assist with or take responsibility for efiling on a daily basis. Assist with preparing Form 5558 Extensions.
  • Assist and support Consultants, other 5500 Specialists and Data Collections as necessary and as directed by the office manager to optimize the Wrangle process.

This position requires a significant amount of self-management in terms of following Wrangle’s Best Practices Form 5500 Timeline, responding to emails in a timely manner and ensuring that all data is reviewed and the correct responses provided.
