Section 1: Position Summary

The Vice President of Scrum Masters will lead and evolve the Agile practice across all software development groups. This executive will oversee a team of over 20 Scrum Masters supporting all major divisions and report directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). They will define, standardize, and continuously improve a shared set of Agile metrics that inform decision-making, increase transparency, and measure delivery efficiency and business impact.

This leadership role demands deep expertise in Agile methodologies, cross-functional team management, and metrics-driven transformation. The VP of Scrum Masters will champion consistency, collaboration, and maturity in Agile delivery across the enterprise.

Section 2: Job Functions, Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and socialize a unified framework of Agile metrics, including velocity, cycle time, predictability, team health, and business value delivered.
  • Collaborate with divisional and enterprise stakeholders to ensure metrics are relevant, actionable, and aligned with business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance project management and scrum processes. Proven ability to integrate AI tools and technologies to optimize workflows, improve decision-making, and drive innovation within teams. Experience in utilizing machine learning algorithms to predict project outcomes, identify risks, and streamline operations.
  • Build and scale a center of excellence (CoE) for Scrum Masters, fostering knowledge sharing, professional development, and coaching.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, QA, and Delivery leaders to identify and remove systemic impediments to agility.
  • Drive Agile maturity through the use of continuous improvement techniques and feedback loops.
  • Act as a thought leader and internal consultant for best practices in Agile frameworks (Scrum, SAFe, Kanban, etc.) and delivery models.
  • Present key Agile performance metrics and trends to the CIO and other senior leaders, providing insights into organizational health and delivery performance.
  • Champion a culture of servant leadership, psychological safety, and empowered teams.
  • Support the alignment of Agile processes with portfolio governance, risk management, and compliance standards.
  • Proven experience in managing organizational change readiness and adoption. Ability to lead and support teams through transitions, ensuring smooth implementation of new processes and technologies. Expertise in developing strategies to foster a culture of change, driving engagement, and ensuring successful adoption across the organization.
  • Responsible for protecting, securing, and proper handling of all confidential data held by Ascensus to ensure against unauthorized access, improper transmission, and/or unapproved disclosure of information that could result in harm to Ascensus or our clients.

Supervision  

  • Lead and manage a team of over 20 Scrum Masters aligned to all divisions, ensuring consistent application of Agile practices and delivery excellence across the enterprise.

Section 3:  Experience, Skills, Knowledge Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in Agile delivery, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing multiple teams or an Agile CoE.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, or related field; advanced degree or Agile certifications (e.g., SAFe SPC, CTC, ICP-ACC) preferred.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale Agile transformations in complex, matrixed environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to define, implement, and scale Agile metrics across multiple teams and divisions.
  • Deep understanding of Agile frameworks and methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, LeSS, etc.).
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with experience influencing C-level stakeholders.
  • Strong track record of developing and mentoring Agile talent, including Scrum Masters and Agile Coaches.
  • Experience working in a hybrid or fully distributed software development environment.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience using tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Rally, or equivalent for metric extraction and analysis.

The national average salary range for this role is $150-200k in base pay, exclusive of any bonuses and benefits. This base salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salary offered will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, performance, and internal pay alignment.
