As part of our hiring process, you may be invited to participate in a digital interview assessment. This allows us to get to know you better in a flexible convenient way. You'll be asked to complete a series of questions in a time that best suits you all from the comfort of your own home. The digital interview includes video based behavioral questions that are designed to assess your skills/experience and potential fit for the role. This step helps us evaluate key competencies while ensuring a fair and consistent experience for all candidates.
We are excited that you are interested in joining the Call Center Team! To help you understand what to expect here is a outline of our typical hiring process:
HireVue is a video interview tool that allows us to get to know an applicant outside of just their resume and application. Applicants will be prompted to answer questions that highlight skills and ability to do the job.
How will the use of a HireVue Interview benefit me?
We are excited to provide a modernized and flexible application experience for you. Keep in mind it is not a replacement for a real in-person interview. HireVue is yet another tool that companies use for an initial screening, like a complement to your resume and cover letter. An opportunity to tell your story and to show you are more than words on a resume! Candidates will be asked the same or similar questions as everyone else applying for the position, which can lessen the chance of bias in the job application process. Finally, with HireVue there is no need to travel in the early stages of the interview process, and you can take it at a time that fits with your schedule. Because HireVue is a virtual tool, you can take your On Demand interview using your phone or PC within a specific period of time.
How should I prepare for the HireVue Interview?
Prepare for your HireVue like you would for any job interview. Always do some research about the job and company. Spend some time thinking about how your skills align with the job requirements. Employers enjoy hearing about your learning ability, problem solving skills, dependability, and ability to be a team player.
To prepare, create a list of brief stories about challenges you’ve faced, approaches you took, and results you achieved at previous jobs or in school. Study them and become comfortable talking about your previous (and current) roles. You can even keep your notes next to you in case you need a reminder during the interview. Also, as you’re practicing interview questions, we recommend using the “STAR” framework to organize your thoughts and responses. The acronym stands for “Situation,” “Task,” “Action,” and “Result.” Describe the situation you were in, the task at hand, the actions you took, and the results.
Where should I take the HireVue Interview?
Since you can interview from anywhere, make sure it’s somewhere where you’re comfortable. Pick a spot free from distractions and noise. Ensure you’ve got the strongest wifi signal possible. And, always, check your lighting. Make sure it’s in front of you; lighting from behind isn’t flattering. It’s best to find a room with natural lighting so your face is visible. If it’s too bright outside, close the blinds. And remember: don’t worry about making eye contact with the camera. Just be natural.
Can I practice taking a HireVue Interview?
While virtual interviewing isn’t difficult, a little practice can help you prepare. Most on-demand interviews ask you to give your answer in just a few minutes. It’s helpful to think about how you will illustrate your skills clearly in that timeframe, and to practice them out loud. You’ll even have the opportunity to do a practice question. If you’d like, practice answering questions by recording yourself on a smartphone, tablet, or computer, even before you take your interview to get used to answering on camera.
How long will the interview take?
Most interviews take roughly 20-30 minutes to complete. Having an hour allows you to take your time, practice, and give the best answers. Don’t panic if you have a technical hiccup. While you should be able to iron most errors out by testing your equipment, occasionally you’ll still run into a technical issue, like background noise or another distraction. Instead of beating yourself up, try not to let it affect the interview. Just apologize for the interruption and continue with the question asked. You could even laugh it off, if need be.
What about people who live with disabilities. Can you still take a HireVue?
Absolutely, but if you feel that your disability precludes you from being able to engage in an on-demand video interview, it’s best to contact your employer and request a different accommodation.
If I applied to multiple positions does the initial interview that I placed with one position work for the others?
Each position requires different skills and experience, we ask that candidates complete an interview for every application they submit.
Where should I report HireVue technical issues?
For HireVue technical issues, refer to the HireVue Customer Support by using HireVue Help Center.
Before the Interview
Although an HireVue On Demand interview can be mutually beneficial for candidates and employers, it can still be stressful if you’ve never done one before. Fortunately, there are several things you can do in advance to become more comfortable.
First, read any instructions that you receive from the employer along with your HireVue On Demand interview link. They might offer specific recommendations in regard to dress code or share some additional insight into the types of questions they plan to ask. If there’s no recommendation for dress code, err on the side of caution and dress the way you would for a typical in-person interview.
Next, make sure you’ve determined that the technology you plan to use is working properly. If you’re taking the interview on your smartphone, you’ll need to download the HireVue app. If you plan to use a desktop, you’ll need to have access to a webcam, a microphone, and the internet.
We also recommend using the Practice Questions feature on HireVue right before the real thing, since that will give you the opportunity to become more comfortable with the platform and to make sure there are no technical difficulties on your end. Keep in mind that the practice questions will be different than the real interview questions. And as with any interview, make sure you’ve done your due diligence in understanding how your academic and work experiences match the job you’re applying for, and why you might be a good fit for the company. Consider running through some behavioral interview questions with a friend or in front of a mirror.
During the Interview
When it’s time for the interview itself, make sure you get rid of any distractions before starting HireVue. That means silencing any phone notifications, ensuring that any roommates or pets will not disturb you, and picking a quiet environment out of audibly. You should also ensure that the lighting is sufficient for your interview.
As with every video interview, make sure you answer the questions while looking directly at the webcam, not the screen. This will give a better impression of making eye contact. For additional tips, HireVue also has a Candidate Help Center, where they’ve laid out many of the tips listed above, including details on specific things like technical difficulties in the interview or device-specific instructions.
Video interviews like HireVue can take some getting used to. Remember that HireVue is only one component of your overall application, and the On Demand interviews are usually a precursor to formally meeting with a hiring manager—not a replacement. While it might seem intimidating at first, with some practice and advance preparation you might even find that using HireVue can really make your application stand out.
