Section 1: Position Summary

The Web Development Manager will lead the development and maintenance of our public websites using the Umbraco Content Management system, ensuring they are innovative, user-friendly, and all aspects of the system are utilized to their fullest potential. This role involves overseeing a team of developers, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and implementing best practices in web development. This role requires the individual to actively participate in tasks while also leading and mentoring the team and will balance between hands-on execution and team leadership. The Web Development Manager will collaborate with our digital product marketing team, as well as other stakeholders, to set the strategic roadmap for our public web development projects, ensuring the execution of the roadmap is completed on time and on scope.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of modern web development technologies and delivery frameworks. They will be a strong communicator, able to effectively convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and build consensus around project goals and priorities. This role must proactively solve problems, anticipate issues, and have strong technical knowledge and project management skills. A strong familiarity with Umbraco, its customization capabilities, and its best practices will be crucial for this role.

Section 2: Job Functions, Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee a team of web developers, providing guidance, support, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative and growth-focused environment.
  • Manage and contribute to a variety of web projects, including the development of innovative user experiences and the execution of regular website maintenance tasks.
  • Oversee and participate in the implementation of Umbraco-specific features, optimizing the system for performance, and ensuring seamless integration with our digital product ecosystem.
  • Ensure code quality is maintained, and web development work follows industry best practices and security standards.
  • Collaborate with our public digital product marketing team, as well as other stakeholders, to set the strategic roadmap for our public web development projects.
  • Implement and maintain the design system and templates within the Content Management System (CMS), ensuring consistency and efficiency in content creation. This includes leveraging headless CMS capabilities to separate content from presentation, enabling flexible and scalable content delivery across multiple sites.
  • Enhance site performance, accessibility, and core web vitals to align with technical SEO best practices and attain high performance scores.
  • Perform routine audits of the website to pinpoint performance bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Proactively monitor analytics and user behavior to identify opportunities for improving UX/UI, site speed, and engagement.
  • Assess and integrate new technologies to ensure the website remains at the cutting edge of web development advancements.
  • Responsible for protecting, securing, and proper handling of all confidential data held by Ascensus to ensure against unauthorized access, improper transmission, and/or unapproved disclosure of information that could result in harm to Ascensus or our clients.

  • Oversee the daily management and complete annual performance reviews for 3 direct reports

Section 3:  Experience, Skills, Knowledge Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in web development (front-end, back-end, or full-stack)
  • 5+ years in a leadership or managerial role
  • A strong familiarity with Umbraco Cloud Content Management System
  • Understanding of C# and the .NET Framework or .NET Core
  • Experience with project lifecycle management (Agile, Scrum, or Kanban)
  • Experience working with stakeholders, including product owners, designers, and QA teams
  • Strong understanding of web architecture, security best practices, and performance optimization
  • Familiarity with SEO, accessibility standards (WCAG), and web analytics
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies
  • Understanding of budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management

The national average salary range for this role is 100-140k in base pay, exclusive of any bonuses and benefits. This base salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salary offered will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, performance, and internal pay alignment.
